Dodge PTA is hosting a viewing of the award winning documentary
"Screenagers: Raising Children in the Digital Age" on April 4th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.
We hope you are able to attend.
This event is free and open to the public. Additionally, the PTA will be giving away Circle with Disney devices to four lucky attendees. Circle with Disney is a smart devices that recognizes and manages all wired and wireless devices on your network. With Circle, parents can filter content, set a bedtime for every family member and more.
You can view the Screenagers trailer here.
Research shows that 98% of all 8 year olds have access to a mobile device in their home and that the average American child spends over 6 hours a day in front of a screen. Every parent knows that even a toddler can unlock their parent's phone and we all know how easy it is to hand over a device to get a little peace and quiet. Screenagers dives deep into how technology impacts children's development and how parents have to compete with games, devices, and youtube for their child's attention. The documentary explores solutions for handling screentime and provides parents with tools to help their children balance their digital lives.
We hope you can join us in this community discussion.
Please note, Screenagers is only shown in "Community Screenings" so that the topic of growing up in the digital age is surrounded by meaningful dialogue that leads to powerful change. You can't stream this on Netflix, so please join us!
We are excited to host this event on Wednesday, March 20th, from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Dodge Library. Childcare is available through Amherst YES in the gym for ages 4 and up. Our PTA was one of 200 PTA's in the country selected to host a Be Internet Awesome Parent Workshop, sponsored by Google and National PTA. This workshop will focus on digital safety and citizenship, with topics such as device security and passwords, safe websites, privacy, and more. The workshop is designed to provide parents with the space and time to have honest conversations with one another about raising children in an increasingly digital world. Parents will walk away with awareness of the topics, access to resources, action plans and tools to facilitate discussions at home.
There will be a drawing for all attendees for a Google Pixelbook, a laptop valued at $1,000. We are grateful for your investment in your children's education and our community. We hope you are able to participate in this meaningful discussion that affects all of our children.
